How the WiFi QR format works
A WiFi QR code is a short piece of text in a standard shape — WIFI:S:NetworkName;T:WPA;P:Password;;. Phones read that format natively, so scanning it offers to join the network without anyone typing anything.
Use WPA for almost every modern network, nopass for an open one, and add H:true if your network hides its SSID. If your password contains a semicolon, backslash or quote, escape it or your code will not parse.
- iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android 10+ join directly from the camera app.
- On older Android devices the scan may just show the text — keeping the password on a card underneath covers that gap.
- Guest networks are still guest networks: hand the code out, but keep guests off your internal network.
Guest networks, rotation and reprinting
The one thing a static WiFi code cannot do is change. If you rotate the password for security or after a bad guest, every printed card becomes wrong at the same moment.
Two workable patterns: print the code to point at a short page that shows the current credentials, or accept that you reprint table cards every time you rotate. Most cafés and hotels find the first far less painful.

Your data is processed to generate the QR code and is not stored permanently on our servers. Static QR codes are generated in real time and the content is not retained.

Is my WiFi password secure in the QR code?
The password is encoded in the QR code itself. Anyone who can see the QR code can scan it. Only display the QR code in places where you want to share access.
Which security types are supported?
WPA/WPA2 (most common), WEP (older networks), and open networks. Most modern routers use WPA2.
Do WiFi QR codes work on all phones?
Yes. Both iOS and Android support the WiFi QR code format. On iPhone (iOS 11+), scanning will show a Join Network prompt. Android connects automatically on most devices.
What if I change my WiFi password?
You will need to generate and display a new QR code with the updated password. For frequently changing credentials, consider a dynamic QR code.
Does a WiFi QR code work with a hidden network?
It can, but it is fiddly. Hidden networks need the H:true flag and the exact SSID, and some phones still refuse to join from a scan. If a guest has to type the network name anyway, a printed password is often kinder.
Do guests need an app to join from a QR code?
Not on reasonably modern phones — iPhone on iOS 11 or later and Android 10 or later join straight from the camera. On older devices the scan may only display the text, which is why we suggest printing the password underneath as well.
